I wanted to come out of my social media sabbatical because today is such an important day, not only for me, and African Americans everywhere, but for all Americans. Last year this day became an official Federal Holiday, and I believe it will forever be one of the most important ones. That’s because this holiday represent the day African Americans were given something that was taken away for 200 years…Our voice, and though it has been a hard long road from there to here, and even though we still have so far to go, this holiday makes me proud of my people, proud of those who fought and continues to fight the good fights, proud of those who fight for justice and equality amongst us all. I call myself learning a little bit more about my history this month. I’m trying to learn 1 new history fact about African Americans, and let me tell you, my mind is blow. I’m learning about that so many daily used machines may not have been evented by people of color but enhance and modernized to be what we use today. Things like Automatic elevator doors, & electric clothes dryers, or the fact that Ford is known for mass producing cars, but it was George Washington Carver who showed him how to do it. Now these facts may be known to some, if not all of you already, but it caused me to want to know what else have People of Color been a part of behind closed doors. I’m starting to feel like this world is the world of OZ and we are Dorothy: Here we are looking trying to find the wizard (the true history), the history we’ve been told all our lives is that fake history just to scare us and keep us from knowing the truth about “OZ” (The true role People of Color played), But the truth is starting to feel like People of Color were the real Wizards all along. As I grow older, I’m learning that the history taught to me was 5% of what really happened. My entire race was downplayed to think that we only started to make a mark on history 60 years ago, but the honest to God truth is, we’ve always been working behind the scenes making this country great without any of the recognition.

That’s why I am so proud to represent the history that once was, and the future that we’re fighting for. Today is the last day of 2021, and I know I put a lot of my creative outlets on the back burner, but I did what was needed to get to where I am now. I am so excited to see where 2022 takes me. So much in my life has change, and I have so many reasons for feel lucky and bless. It’s only because of the support of family, friends, supporters on my platforms that I am able to come back stronger than ever.

Before the new year gets here I wanna share with you all my year last Blog post of the year. I know I haven’t kept up with it as well as I should have but I’m hoping that today will be the beginning of a new and improved content creator on all of my social media platforms. I want to thank you all for all the support and love you’ve given me this year, and being here now even though I was MIA for literally 4 months. That is more important than any number of likes on a post. I can wait to go through this next year with each of you.

IT’S MY BIRTHDAY! Another year around the sun and I couldn’t feel more blessed. When I look back at the person I was a year ago today I wish I could tell him how many amazing things were going to happen to him over the next 12 months. If I’m being honest, the best gift I could have received on my birthday I received on Christmas morning, when the love of my life said yes to marrying me while at @disneyland we were able to have one of the most magical moments possible thanks to @catal_restaurant I’m not usually one for my birthday but she has made this one the most rememberable one yet to come. I think I’m more excited that this is my first birthday as a fiancé more than anything. If this birthday has shown me anything it’s that every birthday is special when I have her to celebrate it with me. Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Okay lets talk pets for a second. You all know I LOVE my animals but it seriously can get overwhelming especially when you have not one but FOUR cats. Happy Juneteenth everyone! This post portably hit me the hardest because as I made it I realized how true it is. How crazy this world is that even when you conquer all the obstacle there’s never a moment of true bliss. As an POC, I know my achievement are BEYOND amazing, but I know that my failures will be the things that most grasp on to. Which is why WE have to be proud of every accomplishment no matter how big or small. Because they all matter. Today is a reminder that even the impossible is possible. Yes, there is an entire backstory of why this day came into fruition, but at the end of the day it happened and that’s what matters, freedom rang on this day in 1865 and we will never forget that. We are FAR from the promise land, but it doesn’t mean our journey doesn’t impact those around us and those who look up to us. Every success story is as important as every failure, we are the role models of the next generation rather we want to be or not. Well, it’s officially time to look move forward, and start living the life I’ve been building up to. It’s crazy, when we go to college, we are so eager to leave, so ready to take on the world. However, I don’t think we really understand what that means. For me it’s been less than two weeks, and even though I am loving this newfound freedom, sometimes I feel that little tug of doubt on my heart. I know its normal, because for the first time in my life my future is not mapped out. I knew what I was supposed to be doing every day, I knew what the years in front of me were going to consist of because I was after one goal, Graduation. Now that I’ve fulfilled that goal, making new ones, and understanding my purpose can sometimes be baffling, but it’s truly liberating to finally have no idea what I’m supposed to be doing, and allowing myself to take it one day at a time. I know my future is bright, I know that there are so many adventures waiting for me now that I can finally step away from my title of “Student”. It’s a scary thought, but we are here now, so I think I am finally ready to embrace the freedom of not knowing what tomorrows expectations are.

I AM AN OFFICIAL GRADUATE! Today is the the day I’ve wanted to come into fruition for so long! This moment has been planned well before I was born. I have a mother and grandmother who sacrificed everything to set me up for this moment. When I think about the three of us, let me tell you, the deck was stacked against us, but we still made it happen. As a first generation college graduate there’s honor and pride in such an accomplishment. I’ve told everyone that this was never “mine” it was always OURS, because a lot of men especially black men can’t say they had the support to set them up for success especially in the inner city of a Chicago. I can’t believe it’s finally here. Today marks my official LAST DAY OF UNIVERSITY! Only two finals stand between me and my degree! I can’t believe I am done going to classes, and hearing lectures. This honestly feels so surreal. Truthfully, this was not on my agenda last year, I had no intentions of walking across this stage in 2021. I had given up a piece of my hope thinking that I would one day walk away with my degree and dignity intact. I was raised to believe that my education is my best strength because it’s the one thing this world can never take from me. A couple years ago I was at the precipice of my darkest hour. I fell down a rabbit hole that took me YEARS to slowly climb out of, and last year was the push I needed to finally step out and I am so proud to say that in 11 days that hole will officially be filled as I walk across that stage. I look back at all the emails, and, and voicemails from a year ago when I decided that I was done wallowing in self-pity and was getting back on track 100%. I read them and I just smile because I truly don’t think I understood how big of a step I took back getting off my butt, and righting all my wrongs. In one year I fixed my education, rebuilt my relationship with my family, and I watch myself as I began to become the person I always wanted to be.
